The sampling site, a representative stretch of a river

For WFD purposes, it is the main aim of sampling to give information on the ecological status of a river. Selection of a representative stretch is the preposition of assessment.

The sampling site must reflect the characteristics of a reach or of an entire waterbody, respectively.

The length of the sampling site is between 20 and 100 metres (based on the width of the river).
