Identification level is based on the "Operational taxa list for German rivers"

The operational taxa list is a suggestion of the minimum level, which should be achieved. It is mainly based on the following questions:

• Which level can be achieved according to current taxonomic knowledge?

• Which level is needed for ecological assessment?

• Which level is practicable, also regarding costs?

A list of identification keys to be used is given in chapter 5 of the final report of the project „Standardisation of Sampling and Data Evaluation of Benthic Invertebrate Samples in Rivers“.

For Plecoptera and Diptera new keys have been generated. For Ephemeroptera and Turbellaria supplements to existing keys have been written.

All keys are part of the above mentioned report.
